Parenting is a huge task, and it is a great challenge especially if you are new to it or have no experience at it as yet.
Well, not everyone has the skill, talent and patience in doing it, and some will need guidance and help in making it work for them. In parenting, do not make perfection your goal, as there is no perfect parent or child and that can only lead to depression and frustration if not achieved, so be realistic as you can be.
A child’s mind is very quick in perception, and they are easy to register in their minds what they see and hear, therefore, be a role model and be careful in your action and words with them around, walk the talk they way they understand. Also, always make sure that your child will feel your love for them even in the point of disciplining them so that they will understand that even if they do wrong your love for them is not going to change.
It is okay to be lenient at time, however, always make known to your child your limits and be firm and consistent with your rules, and in implementing discipline and consequences, as this will train the child to be responsible, to choose acceptable behaviors and learn self-control at all times. Communicate and make time for your kids no matter how occupied or busy you are and do not shut them out because that can also lead them to be antisocial, be isolated and develop the feeling of being unwanted or unheard.
Learn to appreciate your kids when something good was being done or achieved, even rewarding them no matter how little it can be, as that can boost their confidence and self-esteem, arousing in them they want to do better. Learn how to understand the needs of your child, and sometimes it is also a must to listen to them, that way they will know that their thought is also valued.
Be patient, parents, every child has it own learning curve, and you cannot expect them to be as responsive as other kids or as you are when you were a kid.
